Televisa and Milenio TV directors express their displeasure with the recent kidnapping of several journalists
Last night, Televisa's Canal de las Estrellas suspended the broadcast of weekly program "Punto de Partida" (Point of Departure) in an act of protest over the disappearance of its reporter, Hector Gordoa, who was taken captive in Torreon, Coahuila, by an armed group for 72 hours, before being released Thurs. evening, July 29. Denise Maerker, the program's director, demanded that state agencies guarantee "the safety of individuals and the exercise of freedom and the work of professionals." Meanwhile, Ciro Gomez-Leyva, director of Milenio TV, complained that "a media outlet is not equipped to handle a kidnapping." A Grupo Milenio cameraman disappeared on Mon. along with two other reporters from the lake area.
