Amidst a reeling recession, W Hotels launches new $500 million dollar South Beach venture

W Hotels, part of conglomerate Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, has set to open a new $500 million dollar condo and hotel complex with beach views in every room and half a dozen bars. Although the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau reported that room occupancy rate dropped 11.5%, W Hotels newest location hopes to weather the recession with those who have fared better. W Hotels officials said the South Beach location has sold out for weekends in July, fueled in part by a 20% summer discount for ‘staycationing’ South Florida residents.
