What’s Under Antarctic Ice?
NASA scientists found a shrimp-like creature and a jellyfish frolicking beneath an Antarctic ice sheet

Scientists drilled an eight-inch hole in an ice sheet, and were filming a small area of water when a Lyssianasid amphipod -- a relative of the shrimp -- rested on the trailing camera cable. The extreme dark and cold made finding the shrimp very surprising for the team of several biologists from U.S. universities and the British Antarctic Survey, as they were studying 600 feet below the surface, in conditions very few things above a microbial level can survive. The team also found a tentacle believed to have once belonged to a jellyfish.
