The most visited information portal in Venezuela takes measures to avoid government sanctions

Noticias 24, the most visited information portal in Venezuela, according to Alexa.com, has deactivated the ability to comment on the information it publishes as it develops a platform to moderate users' commentary. This is the first response from media to the request made last Sat. by President Hugo Chavez, who blamed another news site, Noticiero Digital, for publishing false information about the assassination of Diosdado Cabello and Mario Silva, directors of Venezuela's Socialist Party. Chavez called for controlling Internet connections, a remark which has been much criticized by the opposition and defenders of freedom of expression. But more criticism of Chavez's sort came on Mon. from the attorney general who said the National Assembly should legislate on this matter, and from the former education minister, Aristobulo Isturiz, who said that web sites are subject to the Public Radio and Television Radio Responsibility Law.
