Lacking Evidence
Southern Command has no evidence of links between Venezuela and the FARC and ETA
The head of the U.S.'s Southern Command, Gen. Douglas Fraser, said he has no evidence of links between Venezuela with the FARC and ETA, although he maintains "close" watch. "We haven't seen any specific relation which might verify that there is a direct link between the government and terrorists," he said upon being questioned by the Senate. Arturo Valenzuela, who is responsible for U.S. diplomacy with Latin America, said last Wed. that there are "certain indications that there was some sort of assistance" from Caracas to the FARC, during another hearing at the House of Representatives. Venezuela has rejected reports and statements from U.S. officials considering them slanted.
