President Obama condemns the Iranian crackdown against demonstrations, moves on health and energy reform
After 10 days of restrained responses, President Barack Obama condemned Iran’s violent efforts to crush dissent—a clear toughening of his rhetoric as Republican critics at home pound him as being too passive. Although the president employed forceful language he emphasized the United States has had no involvement with the protests in Tehran. At a midday news conference, Obama also promoted his energy and healthcare overhaul bills. His appearance was the latest in the president’s aggressive media push to widen his support base for the initiatives.
