Alan Garcia arrives in Chile to personally turn over humanitarian aid

Peru's President Alan Garcia arrived in Santiago this afternoon to express his solidarity with the people of Chile and to personally turn over humanitarian aid for those affected by the earthquake which struck last Sat. and measured 8.8 degrees on the Richter scale. "We bring a message of brotherhood, of solidarity, and at the same time we bring a message of support so that the Chilean people know that under circumstances such as these we are at their service and command, and here to provide support for what needs to be done," Garcia said. The leader said that "following the Chilean government's indications" his country would collaborate by providing a field hospital and 21 doctors to work in it, as well as tents, huts and a water purification plant, among other elements.
