The closing of Macho Picchu drives luxury tourism in Chile and Argentina
The newspaper El Diario Financiero de Chile revealed today that the momentary closing of the Macho Picchu citadel is helping luxury tourism in Peru and Argentina. According to the newspaper, 500 high income tourists who considered going to Machu Picchu on cruises have chosen to visit the Chilean valleys of Colchagua, Leyda, Casablanca, and the valleys of the Argentine area of Mendoza. The National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) said that the destination change is not a cause for alarm, since it was logical that some foreigners would prefer to visit other countries in the region such as Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
