Sebastian Pinera announced his support for Insulza's reelection to the OAS

Chile's President-elect Sebastian Pinera officially made known his support of former interior minister and present head of the Organization of American States (OAS), Jose Miguel Insulza. This happened after an hour long meeting with the international organization's general secretary, after the official arrived from the U.S. during a surprise visit to the country. In this way, Pinera put an end to the suspense surrounding whether he would support the former chancellor's reelection March 24. This support comes days after the U.S. newspaper The Washington Post published a column which disapproved of Insulza's performance at the OAS. "I've made the decision that our nation's future government, to take office March 11, will give strong support to the reelection of Jose Miguel Insulza as OAS general secretary," Pinera said.
