If realized, Slim's holding companies would have the Spanish firm in its crosshairs

If Telmex Internacional and Telmex Mexico were to merge to be an America Movil-led group, it would create a company that would rank fourth among the major telecommunications companies of the world, and would place itself extremely close to its main competitor, Telefonica. According to the Competitive Intelligence Unit (CIU), Telefonica ranks third on this table with 268 million lines, with the top two being China Mobile and Vodafone English, which have 518 and 303 million users, respectively. If the America Movil holding company is formed, it would only be 32 million lines away from the Spanish operator.
