"We Will Act Accordingly"
President Hugo Chávez is taking Shimon Peres's statements seriously

A lively Hugo Chávez in the Miraflores palace received, with honors, his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whom he described "as a gladiator of anti-imperialist struggles”. Both leaders merged into a big hug before the acts of protocol. To reaffirm the political relationship that binds the two countries, Chavez said he took statements made by Israeli President Shimon Peres, who said the two leaders "will disappear soon," as a threat. "We took it as a threat and will act accordingly", said Chavez. "They accuse you of warmongering, when they are the aggressors", Chavez said, addressing Ahmadinejad. Referring, once again, to Peres's statements, the Venezuelan president concluded: "What’s going to disappear here is imperialism, which is already disappearing". During his recent visit to Argentina, the Israeli president, Shimon Peres, said the presidents of Venezuela and Iran are bound to fall, "not because any of us are going to assassinate them but because their own people are tiring of them and it will not take much time for them to disappear.”
