Airline Prices Skyrocket
The government has authorized a 20% increase on domestic flights

Domestic airlines, led by Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral, decided today on the possibility of increasing their rates by another 20%, coinciding with the high season’s onset. As a result, prices for flying within the country have accumulated (a greater than) 100% adjustment since Kirchner’s arrival as president. During his presidency, Néstor Kirchner only increased domestic flight rates once. It was in mid 2006, after returning from a trip to Spain where he led tough negotiations on the airlines’ future with its then owners, the Spanish Gerardo Diaz Ferran and Gonzalo Pascual, owners of the Marsans group.
