Ecuador is Among the Most Corrupt Countries in the World
That's what the International Transparency Organization’s 2009 Corruption Perception Index says
Ecuador ranks 146 of 180 countries included in the 2009 Corruption Perception Index by the International Transparency Organization. According to the entity, the results indicate that corruption is seriously widespread in Latin America. In addition, the agency said these countries have "high levels of poverty and urgently require strong and transparent institutions that can facilitate their more than necessary economic development.” On a rating system from zero to ten, the index measures the degree to which bureaucrats and politicians of different countries are perceived as corrupt. Zero corresponds to the country perceived as most corrupt and ten, to the one with the least of these practices. Among the countries with the lowest scores in the region are Venezuela (162), Paraguay (154), Nicaragua (130), Honduras (130) and Bolivia (120). Countries like Chile and Uruguay demonstrated a good performance in the rating, sharing the 25th position. Other Latin American countries with acceptable scores were Brazil (75), matched by Colombia and Peru.
