Commotion Over Presumed Spying
A non-commissioned officer of the Peruvian Air Force was arrested for allegedly spying for Chile

The Peruvian Air Force (FAP) arrested its non-commissioned officer Victor Ariza Mendoza, who allegedly spied for Chile. The defense minister said that Ariza sent confidential Peruvian information to Chile. Reactions were quick to follow. President Alan Garcia, who is at the XVII Asian Pacific Cooperation Forum Summit (APEC) cancelled all interviews with foreign media and, according to Peruvian media, won't speak to any press. Meanwhile, the chairman of Chile's House of Representatives Foreign Relations Commission, Oswaldo Palma, said that his country is not characterized by spying, and much less so, on Peru. Nevertheless, the representative avoided comments about the veracity of the deeds. Chile's Chancellor Mariano Fernandez also withheld comment.
