Colombia Willing to Open Dialogue
Despite threats by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez said that the space for an open dialogue exists with the neighboring country

Colombian Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez said Tues. that the space for an open dialogue exists with Venezuela despite threats by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. Also, Colombia has reiterated its intention to raise the issue before international forums. "We have not closed the option of maintaining dialogue with Venezuela," Bermudez said. According to the official, Colombian President Álvaro Uribe has called Chavez "several times" and has done the same with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro. "We’ve had no answer, but we believe that when there are difficulties, what you have to do is deepen relationships, not break them," he added. The chancellor gave these statements from New Delhi, India, where he was on an official visit with the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Luis Guillermo Plata.
