Venezuela's vice president announced the deployment of 15,000 National Guard troops to combat illegal and irregular military

Venezuela's vice president, Ramon Carrizales, announced that it will be deploying 15,000 National Guard troops to the six states along the western border to combat the presence of irregular militants and illegal mining activity. The guards will be distributed among the states of Amazonas, Apure, Bolivar, Zulia, Barinas and Táchira as part of Operation Sentinel and the object is to fight the illegal exploitation of Colton ore which sells for large sums abroad. They will similarly be tasked with searching for illicit crops and addressing the security and crime problems which have worsened in recent times and which continue to plague the border region.
