Process to Restore Relations Advances
After today’s meeting, Colombia and Ecuador’s foreign ministers agreed to reactivate the Bilateral Border Commission and will announce the appointing of their business managers

The foreign ministers of Colombia, Jaime Bermúdez, and Ecuador, Falconi Fander, announced that, by no later than Nov. 15, the two countries will appoint their business managers and reactivate the Border Bilateral Commission, to address defense and safety issues. The two officials met today in the town of Cotacachi, in the northern Andes region of Ecuador, to discuss Ecuador’s regulations for the March 2008 military attack on its territory and the Ecuadoran courts’ processes being conducted against former Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos and Armed Forces Commander General Freddy Padilla de León, among other sensitive topics. The meeting was attended by Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Jose Miguel Insulza, and Carter Center foundation representative, Jennifer McCoy.
