CFE: The Other Network
The Federal Electricity Commissions’ most extensive fiber optic infrastructure will be up for bidding

The CFE’s (Federal Electricity Commission) most extensive fiber optic infrastructure network will be up for bidding. The Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) established three infrastructure route lines subject to competitive bidding: Pacific (from Baja, California north to Oaxaca), Central (from Chihuahua to Chiapas, with access to Guatemala) and Gulf (starting from Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas ending in the Yucatan Peninsula, and includes access to an undersea cable that connects to Florida, USA). Interested companies may compete for the award of one, two or all three routes, but must unquestionably comply with one requirement: companies must have at least 51% Mexican capital share. The competitive bidding will be held in Nov. and the winners will receive the award next year in Jan. In terms of territorial reach, only the CFE’s fiber optic infrastructure can compete with Telmex's technology platform.
