Within the context of the Brazil - Colombia business gathering, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva proposed today to his Colombian counterpart, Álvaro Uribe, to take all necessary measures to double bilateral trade in the next 14 months. The Brazilian leader said that at present, trade between the two countries has not been sufficiently exploited. Lula also said Brazil is able to help finance infrastructure projects in neighboring countries and revealed the National Bank of Economic and Social Development’s interest in financing the growth of Colombian agriculture. During the meeting, the Brazilian president announced that on Nov. 26 a summit will be held with leaders from the Amazon region in the Brazilian city of Manaus. "President Uribe has been on board with this idea, which seeks to have all countries with territory in this region to arrive with a unified approach to the Climate Change summit to be held in Copenhagen (Denmark) in Dec. of this year," said Lula da Silva. A delegation composed of Colombian President Álvaro Uribe, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Luis Guillermo Plata, Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez, and entrepreneurs are involved in the Brazil - Colombia business gathering.
