Digital Watch – Part 1: Rui Ferreira’s interview with Honduras’ presidential candidate, Porfirio Lobo Sosa
The presidential candidate insists that only after these elections could create a government of "integration" conducive "agree on a national plan" to improve the serious situation of polarization in Honduras.
The upcoming general election has caused much controversy in the respect that it questions whether or not to elect a new president, but also legislators and mayors. Lobo Sosa, when asked about whether these elections (whose legitimacy has been questioned by representatives of some countries and supporters of ousted President Manuel Zelaya) succeed in being accepted. The presidential candidate said -- stressing that those who questioned were wrong because the laws supported this process -- and also planned to more than one year.
Lobo Sosa noted that these elections are simply those that corresponded to end Zelaya’s presidential term (which is concluding as interim president Roberto Micheletti), and not newly created by the "constitutional crisis" facing Honduras.
Lobo Sosa said that these elections began in late 2008 with the party primary, where the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, is the government agency that manages them, even manages to ensure its transparency. Lobo Sosa described this institution as "independent" and whose existence was needed for the constitutional "management of the electoral process." He added that for the November election, the people of Honduras would be able to vote for their president between six candidates.
